Everyday care

Support for common health concerns, routine medical needs and the ongoing care that helps you stay well. Select a service below to learn what we can help with and what to expect when you book.

Health check-ups

A general health check-up gives you time to discuss your overall health, new symptoms or concerns that have been on your mind. Your clinician can review relevant factors such as your medical history, medicines, lifestyle and any checks that may be due.

We can also help you manage long-term conditions and make a plan for preventive care. The checks included will depend on your age, health and individual needs.

Medical certificates

We provide medical assessments and certificates for work, study and a range of other purposes. An appointment allows a clinician to understand your circumstances and complete the certificate where clinically appropriate.

Please tell reception exactly which certificate or form you need when booking. Requirements, appointment lengths and fees can vary, and some assessments may require additional information.

Referrals

If you need assessment or treatment beyond general practice, we can refer you to an appropriate specialist, hospital department or community health service. Your clinician will discuss the available options and explain what is likely to happen next.

An appointment is usually needed so we can assess your concern and include accurate clinical information with the referral. Waiting times, eligibility and costs vary between public and private services.

Injuries and ACC

Our clinical team can assess and treat many everyday injuries, including sprains, strains, cuts, minor burns and other accidents. We can examine the injury, provide treatment and advice, and arrange further care or a referral when needed.

ACC may contribute towards the cost of eligible injury-related appointments, although a patient fee may still apply. Contact reception promptly if an injury is severe or you are unsure whether general practice is the right place for care.

Prescriptions

Enrolled patients can request repeat prescriptions for regular medicines that have previously been approved by a clinician. Please order before your medication runs out and allow enough time for the request to be reviewed and sent to your chosen pharmacy.

For your safety, some medicines require regular monitoring, blood tests or an appointment before another prescription can be issued. An urgent fee may apply if you need a prescription sooner than the standard timeframe.

Tests and prevention

Testing, screening and immunisation can help identify health concerns early, monitor existing conditions and reduce the risk of preventable illness. Our team can advise which services are appropriate for you.

Health tests

We can arrange a range of health tests to investigate symptoms, monitor an ongoing condition or check how a treatment is working. These may include blood, urine or other diagnostic tests, depending on your clinical needs.

Your clinician will explain why a test is recommended, how to prepare and how you will receive the result. Some tests require a consultation first, while others may have specific eligibility criteria or fees.

Heart checks

A heart and diabetes risk assessment estimates your likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease over the coming years. It may consider your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, smoking status, medical history and whānau history.

We will explain your results in plain language and discuss practical ways to lower your risk. This may include lifestyle changes, further monitoring or medication, depending on your individual health needs.

Health screenings

Health screening aims to identify certain conditions before symptoms appear, when earlier action may improve health outcomes. Recommended screening varies according to your age, sex, medical history, whānau history and other risk factors.

Our team can help you understand which national screening programmes or routine checks may apply to you, including cervical screening and bowel screening, and arrange appropriate follow-up where needed.

Immunisations

We provide funded routine childhood and adult immunisations, along with seasonal and other vaccinations when available. Staying up to date helps protect you, your whānau and people in the community who are more vulnerable to illness.

Our nurses can check your immunisation history, explain what is recommended and answer questions before vaccination. Eligibility and charges vary for some vaccines, so please ask reception when booking.

Treatments and procedures

Selected treatments and minor procedures are available at our Levin practice, helping patients receive appropriate care close to home. Suitability, preparation and fees depend on the service required.

Infusions

Some prescribed medicines, fluids or nutrients can be administered by intravenous infusion at Taitoko Health when this is clinically appropriate. A trained clinician provides the treatment and monitors you during the appointment.

The required referral, preparation, appointment length and fee depend on the type of infusion. Please contact our team before booking so we can confirm that we can provide your treatment and explain what you need to bring.

Ear suction

Microsuction uses gentle suction to remove a build-up of earwax or debris from the ear canal. It may help when blocked ears are causing reduced hearing, discomfort, a feeling of fullness or problems with hearing aids.

Our team will assess whether ear suction is suitable and let you know if you should soften the wax before your appointment. If your symptoms suggest another ear problem, we may recommend a different assessment or treatment.

Specialised support

Confidential, practical support is available for health needs that may require a more focused appointment. Our team will listen without judgement, explain your options and help you decide on the next step.

Licence medicals

We provide medical assessments for driver licence applications and renewals, including checks required for some ages, medical conditions or licence classes. The assessment helps determine whether you meet the relevant medical fitness-to-drive requirements.

Tell reception which licence medical you need when booking so enough time can be allowed. Please bring photo identification, glasses or hearing aids you use for driving, and any forms or information requested by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

Sexual health

We offer respectful and confidential care for sexual health concerns, sexually transmitted infection testing, contraception and related advice. You can also speak with us about symptoms, changes in sexual health or anything that is worrying you.

The most suitable appointment depends on the care or tests you need. Please ask reception if you are unsure what to book. If privacy is a concern, let our team know so we can help you access care comfortably.

Mental wellbeing

You can talk with us if stress, anxiety, low mood, sleep problems or other challenges are affecting your everyday life. You do not need to wait until things feel unmanageable before asking for support.

Our team can listen, assess what is happening and discuss options that suit your needs. These may include practical wellbeing support, counselling, medication, follow-up with your clinician or referral to another service.

Weight management

Our team can support you to work towards realistic, sustainable changes that improve your health, energy and wellbeing. We focus on your overall health rather than a number on the scales and provide advice without judgement.

Support may include reviewing nutrition, movement, sleep, medicines and health conditions that can affect weight. Together, we can discuss suitable goals, available treatment options and whether another health professional could help.
